I believed it was true when he told me,
"Honey, there is no way you can achieve it."
My heart would strongly disagree,
Nothing inside me wanted to quit.
But those old tapes kept playing,
Sneaking up on me when I was weak.
No excuses, shaming, or blaming,
Helped to heal wounds from one critique.
But instead it was the act of proclaiming,
That offered courage to not be afraid.
Habits of listening to others was breaking,
My soul no longer felt betrayed.
Today I listen to a different voice,
From my soul and heart as the source.
Telling me my beliefs are my choice,
And allowing destiny to run its course.
I choose to see gifts and faults alike,
Focusing on the good as I follow my dreams.
Making the decision to do what I like,
Finding the balance instead of extremes.
The past is the past and I leave it there,
Not dragging myself all the way back.
I am who I am, and that I declare,
Now my life is Divinely on track.
