Mudra means "To Please", and is a way to invoke the unseen forces for health and happiness. You can literally manifest your destiny with the palm of your hands.
It is January and the 1st month of the year. The number 1 corresponds to the planetary vibration of the Sun. The Sun is the heart of our Solar System and has an effect on our physical hearts. The heart is the first organ formed in the body, and the first month of the year asks us to put our heart into it with intention and Love, seeking higher consciousness and healing in the year to come. Because of this reason, we chose this mudra to practice all month long in order to strengthen and fortify our hearts as well as balance the positive and negative polarities, the water and fire, by balancing the yin and yang energies and invoking our heart's wishes to manifest at the same time. Since Jupiter and Saturn planets just had a very rare conjunction during the holy days, we are going to work with these two planetary energies in our fingers to bring in more expansion and understanding.
To get into this mudra, first cross your index and middle fingers (Jupiter and Saturn) like you are praying for a wish to come true. These two fingers represent negative and positive polarities coming into harmony. Next, connect the tips of the thumb (Mars) and middle (Saturn) fingers and extend the ring (Sun) and pinky (Mercury) fingers straight. The middle finger is connected to the pericardium, which is the protective sac around the heart. This is why the heart is positively affected by this hand posture.
How long do I hold a Mudra for? One moment to several minutes is standard timing for holding a Mudra. Mudras work based on one's level of consciousness. The higher the consciousness, the less one needs. All mudras are suggested to be held for 1-3 minutes and up to 11-120 minutes with a mantra meditation. Listen to your intuition and feel your mind, heart, and body while you are practicing Mudras. You will learn for yourself what is best for you. Smile, relax, and receive healing from your own hands.
How To Perform The Healthy Heart Infinity Lock Mudra:
1. Straighten the spine in a comfortable posture sitting, standing, or laying down.
2. Rub your hands together vigorously.
3. Cross your index and middle fingers.
4. Touch the thumb and middle finger tips together.
5. Extend the ring and pinky fingers straight.
6. Relax your shoulders and elongate the spine, allowing the chest to rise and the chin to gently relax in and up. Close the eyes and focus at the brow (3rd eye) point.
7. Smile, breathe long deep breaths, chant Triple Mantra, or practice Three Part Breath (See Below).
3-Part Breath (Optional):
Inhale slowly into the belly, rib cage, and upper chest for a count of 20. Hold the breath (unless you are pregnant) and squeeze the rectum for a count of 20. Exhale from the chest, rib cage, and belly, drawing the navel in toward the spine for a count of 20. Repeat the breath for a total of 3 minutes. SMILE!
